Call for papers for a Symposium on Seeing: Session 4

Applications of optical turbulence observations and custom forecasting in telescope astronomy

For this session we encourage papers that deal with the application of observational data and forecast guidance that target atmospheric turbulence to the benefit of Earth-based astronomy (or other geosciences, e.g., GPS meteorology). Modern telescopes are mounting greater numbers of instruments on the telescope structure, which allows for rapid implementation of a variety of observing strategies. This flexible instrument technology permits observations to be tailored to take best advantage of the weather conditions each night. Papers that discuss strategies for establishing telescope observing priorities based on forecasts and design of observing cues are particularly welcome in this session. It is hoped that this session will provide a forum for cross communication between groups working on seeing measurements, AO, and modeling, with those making telescope observations. A post-meeting book of invited papers and extended abstracts will be published. Once a paper is selected for presentation, the author will be asked to prepare an extended abstract for inclusion in the book.
