Coastal flooding is likely through Memorial Day due to a combination of elevated sea levels, seasonal king tides and a declining south swell. The flooding is likely to be worst during the evening high tides. The following are the times for the predicted evening high tides at Honolulu, which will coorespond to coastal flooding impacts. Be advised that observed tides have been running higher than these predicted values. 5/28 Today 6:46 PM 2.3 feet (south shore surf lowering) 5/29 Memorial Day 7:40 PM 2.1 feet (south shore surf lowering) The combination of higher than normal sea levels and king tides will cause coastal flooding along all shores. Although the High Surf Advisory has been cancelled with surf falling below advisory levels, be advised that the elevated surf will continue to contribute to coastal flooding along south facing shores. Beaches that normally remain dry during high surf events along south shores could still flood during this event. Ocean water may also inundate roads, docks, boat ramps and other near-shore infrastructure. The south swell and the king tides will gradually subside through the middle of the week. Elevated sea levels are expected to continue, so the flooding threat may be repeated during the times of the highest tides over the next couple of months. A similar period of high tides exceeding 2 feet is expected in mid to late June, between June 21 and June 27.
