Thursday March 01, 2007 1100 HST - Archive Inventory

An archive inventory page has been developed to list all of our archived products by date.

Monday November 27, 2006 1000 HST - Symposium on Seeing

The Mauna Kea Weather Center is pleased to announce the first Symposium on Seeing. It is tentative scheduled for March 20-22, 2007 in Kona. For registration, abstract submission and other details please go to the following link.

Tuesday November 07, 2006 0600 HST - Archive Models Analyses Page

Another archive page that centers on Model Analyses, which should also be useful for research purposes.

Tuesday August 01, 2006 1000 HST - New Forecast Features

Quantitative Seeing and Percent Probability PW < 0.8 mm has been added to the forecast table. The former has also been added to the graphical forecast trends.

Tuesday June 20, 2006 0600 HST - Archive Models Page

This page, combined with the Satellite and LAPS Archive pages, should be useful for research purposes.

Tuesday June 20, 2006 0530 HST - Server Upgrade

After a few months of constant work, we have finally redistributed the MKWC apache (web) services to a new (hopefully) more stable server. Our old server, along with MKWC2 will feed all of our products to this new server, which should allow products to update quickly and efficiently. MKWC2 will still operate as usual, and our primary server hostname (http://mkwc.ifa.hawaii.edu) will also appear as it has not changed. However, stability has increased as any failure in our new server (heaven forbid) will automatically switch the apache services back to our old server while we address this problem. Any failures on our old server should barely be apparent on the web page; the only exception at the moment are products created by Matlab, such as the Graphical Trends, Meteograms, Maps, and Soundings. I hope to change that over the next few weeks.

Monday October 31, 2005 1000 HST - Meteorology Dictionary

While still requiring (a lot of) editting and addition of a function or two, we have unleashed a meteorology dictionary to compliment our products. This dictionary is not intended to be complete, but rather includes terms most commonly used in the MKWC forecasts. These definitions are taken from the American Meteorological Society Glossary, and a complete listing of terms can be found there.

Wednesday October 12, 2005 1400 HST - VLBA Meteogram

This should be a useful tool for fog detection/warning...

Thursday July 21, 2005 1200 HST - MKWC Backup Server (http://mkwc2.ifa.hawaii.edu)

In response to the beginning of June when our primary server (MKWC) lost a disk and was a bit unstable for nearly two weeks, we decided it was necessary to purchase a backup server (MKWC2) for our operation. Over the last month or so we have been trying to configure this server to work not only in tandem with MKWC, but in isolation should MKWC go down again. MKWC2 does retrieve its own meterological data via http requests and the Local Data Manager (LDM - a UNIDATA data retrieval software), and processes and displays this data on its own. In the future, should MKWC go down please have the following link handy, http://mkwc2.ifa.hawaii.edu, as forecasts will be posted there and satellite/current observations will also be available.

Friday May 20, 2005 0600 HST - Seeing Verification Page

Friday April 29, 2005 1400 HST - Feedback Page

Although not an extremely useful observational (and probably not as widely-used as we would hope to be) product, our feedback page has been re-tooled. The main reasoning behind this is to remove our emails off the internet to help minimize/mitigate the amount of SPAM that we recieve - which has grown quite a bit over the last year or so. I realize that that sending feedback may require additional effort(s), but in theory this should help us devote more time to more critical issues....

Monday April 25, 2005 1500 HST - What's New

For starters, this page is what's new. Beginning April 25, 2005, MKWC will post updates on this page stating any new products, pages, links, research progress, or other important information that we have completed and that can be useful to the astronomical community. We will most likely post updates as they appear and/or perhaps give a brief update at the end of the week, stating minor accomplishments.

Tuesday April 19, 2005 1300 HST - Download Sequence

A download sequence link has been added to the Satellite Java Animation pages. This link allows users to download a sequence of satellite images in either a gif animation or tar format; the latter is available nearly immediately, while the former can take a few minutes to process. If the user selects the gif animation, they have the option of leaving their email, so the MKWC can notify them when their animation is complete. The user also has the option of removing as many files as they want from the list, which can be useful if there are any blank images. In the future, we hope to expand this download sequence option to all of our java animation pages, including Models, LAPS, Radar, and Webcams....stay tuned.
